Tobacco Exporting

Limbe Leaf Tobacco Export Routes

We supply to customers in 60 countries worldwide with sales of various qualities and styles in three different types of tobacco.

Tobacco for export is either containerized at our factories in Lilongwe and Limbe, and then transported to the ports of Beira, Durban and Nacala, or it is taken break bulk to Beira and Johannesburg for containerization before shipping.

Beira and Durban take the bulk of Malawi tobacco with Port Elizabeth and Nacala taking the excess from Durban and Beira respectively. Over the past four years volumes have steadily shifted to Beira and away from Durban. Over 60% of the volume now goes through Beira. This has mainly been due to the price differential as well as the availability of trucking systems on each of the routes. Although there is only a rail connection and wagons can be in short supply during the peak season Nacala is now considered as an option.
